“I was born and grew up in Shanghai and later moved to Hong Kong. In late 2008, I began to write columns about the past and present interplay between Shanghai and Hong Kong, the two most important financial centre cities for China’s economic development. My first ‘Mr. Shangkong’ column was published on Reuters.com. Since 2012, ‘Mr. Shangkong’ has become a weekly column published every Monday in the South China Morning Post.

In fact, I’m not the inventor of the word ‘Shangkong’. I think the concept of ‘Shangkong’ was first mentioned in articles in The Economist and The Financial Times in the early 2000s. Of course for me, Shangkong means a lot given my personal background and experience. I hope you enjoy it!”
